Things to do before tuesday's storm

There's a belt of spring creeks that climb up through south central Pennsylvania into the hills of God's Country. These waters stay a steady 50 some degrees - deep in winter when the days don't really wake up and throughout the unending summer days of July.

The winter never got started this year. Our February was doused with mild April-like days. Each of them during the work week. Since the days I've been able to get out have usually been on the cold side, my casts have been focused on the spring creeks. The lucidity of the low water and lack of freestone structure make for some spooky trout requiring crawling around and careful casts.

Sow bugs, scuds, sexy walt's worms, and wooly buggers. I still don't have full feeling in my right middle finger from the 17 degree morning wild brown last weekend.  A few midges and blue-winged olives.

There's one last winter storm coming this week, hopefully giving us our first and only significant snow fall of the year. Spring will be here soon, but I'll take a deep freeze and thaw.

The wind crunches dead grass and cattails. Are those midges or just the cotton swirl remains of the typha?

Things to do before Tuesday's Snow Storm

Drink another cup of coffee.
Build a fire and howl at the cold clear night.

Cut down the tall grass that's browned thru the winter.
Pick up large dead limbs taken down by the wind.

Listen to these records:
Loyalty - The Weather Station
Singles- Sun Ra
Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes
Superwolf - Superwolf

Get out the shovels.
Go fishing.
